Local moving, Golden Isles style

Most moves around here are short on miles and long on everything else — a causeway at the wrong hour, a gate that needs a pass, a staircase up the side of a house that was built to sit above the tide. That's the part that decides how a day goes, and it's the part we plan around before the truck ever leaves.

Local moves are hourly, by crew size. What moves the number is how much you own, how many stairs are involved, and the drive between the two addresses. You'll hear that structure on the first phone call, not after the fact, and the table further down shows what moves your size typically add up to.

The causeway sets the clock

Getting a loaded truck onto St. Simons or Sea Island means the causeway, and on a summer weekend that means beach traffic. We'd rather load early and be across before the line forms than sit in it on your hourly clock — so island moves in season start earlier than mainland ones, on purpose.

Jekyll is its own case: the island charges every vehicle to enter, and something the size of a moving truck pays the higher oversized rate. That's one more reason to plan a single well-loaded trip instead of three light ones. We'll walk you through how it works for your move when we quote it, not at the gate.

Beach houses are built on stilts

A house that sits above the storm surge sits above a staircase, and every piece of furniture goes up it — or down it. Exterior stairs, long carries from wherever the truck fits, and elevators in the newer builds that have to be reserved ahead. None of that is a problem when it's known in advance. Tell us the house when you book, and if you've got a photo of the stairs, send it.

Sea Island and the gated communities

Sea Island and the gated neighborhoods on St. Simons run on their own rules — a pass for the crew, sometimes paperwork from the mover before anyone's allowed through. We arrange that ahead of move day, so the truck isn't idling at a gatehouse while somebody makes phone calls. Tell us the community and we'll handle the rest.

Old Town and the mainland

The Victorians along Union Street and the old squares of downtown Brunswick come with narrow drives, big trees, plaster walls, and heart-pine floors that show every scuff — truck placement gets decided on the walk-through, and floors get runners before the first piece moves. Out through Dock Junction, Sterling, and Glynco the houses get newer and the driveways get longer, and those are usually the simpler days.

FLETC and Kings Bay

Two things bring people to this coast on a timeline they didn't pick: the training center at Glynco, where households arrive and leave with a course, and the sub base at Kings Bay, where Navy families move on orders. Short notice is normal for both, and you'll get a straight answer on availability the same day you call — see military moving for how PCS paperwork works.

Storm season, honestly

June through November, coastal moves get planned with one eye on the forecast. If a named storm is genuinely in the picture we'd rather help you shift a date than load a truck in weather, and there's no charge for a move we postpone for that. Locals already think this way; so do we.

Salt air changes how things are packed

If anything is headed for storage or a house that'll sit empty a few weeks, the humidity here changes the plan: paper against wood and upholstery rather than plastic, so nothing sits sealed in its own moisture. Ask about packing services if you'd rather hand that off.

Darien, Jesup, and Waycross

The inland runs — down to Darien, up to Jesup, out to Waycross — get the same crew and the same hourly structure. On the longer ones we'll tell you on the call whether it prices better hourly or as one flat number in writing.

What's included, no asterisks

  • Disassembly and reassembly of beds, tables, and the furniture that has to come apart
  • Moving pads and blankets on your furniture for the ride
  • Floor runners and door protection at both ends
  • Placement where you actually want it — including the second guess after you've seen it in the room

Leaving the coast entirely? That's long-distance, quoted flat before move day.

Local moving questions, answered straight

How much do local movers cost in Brunswick?

Hourly, by crew size — a two-bedroom typically lands between $640 and $845, a three-bedroom between $1,104 and $1,656. Drive time counts, so the causeway adds a little. The table above has every size.

Is a move to St. Simons or Jekyll priced differently?

Same structure; the causeway is just drive time. Jekyll charges every vehicle to enter, more for a truck — we plan one loaded trip and walk you through it when we quote.

When should I book?

Two weeks most of the year, three for June through August — island rentals turn over on the same summer weekends and the causeway is slow.

Will you move just one room, or one heavy thing?

Yes. There's a minimum and we'll tell you what it is up front. Pianos too, as long as it isn't a grand or baby grand and stays under 800 pounds.

Moving on the Golden Isles?

A straight answer on price, from a crew that knows the causeway.
